The lefthander from left field led the American League in stolen bases four times in seven seasons he played in the majors. With 304 career stolen bases, including two he flew to date the 2009 season at age 27, he is tied with Reggie Sanders for 148th place on the list of senior career stolen base. His record career record was 59 in 2004, with which he led the American League. In second place in the AL with Ichiro Suzuki was only 36. It Only the eighth player in MLB history to have stolen 200 bases before his 25th birthday. It was the same man robbed the house.
His speed also helped with another statistic. He led the major leagues in triples in 2004 and led the American League in two seasons since then, in 2005 and 2006. It helps to be so fast that you can hit a double in a triple room.
Crawford made his debut in a Tampa Bay Rays Jersey in 2002 at the age tender age of 20.
Besides his trademark speed, his career has shown a steady performance improvement. From 2002 to 2006, Crawford improved both his batting average and the number of executions home each year thereafter. Only one other player has shown progress relentlessly for five consecutive years, the legendary Rogers Hornsby.
In 2004 he was selected to the All-Star Team for the first time. In 2005, he became only the third player in a jersey Tampa Bay to cross the mark of 300 for batting average when he finished the season, 301. In 2007, He made the All-Star team again, the first Devil Rays player to do so more than once, and homered in the game. In 2008, he earned his 1,000 th hit, becoming only the eighth player in history to get 1000 MLB hits and 250 stolen bases before his 27th birthday.
But above all, in 2008, he played in World Series. Tampa Bay, after changing their name from "Devil Rays" for "ray", has defied all obstacles to defeat the high-wage the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox win the American League Championship Eastern Division. They then beat the Wild Card Red Sox again for the championship American League and play the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series. The Rays lost to the Phillies in five games.
If 2008 was the break-out for One year the team jerseys in the Tampa Bay Rays, however, there was not one of the best years of Crawford. He had trouble with his legs most of the season then missed several weeks late in the season with an injured tendon in his right hand. He spent the offseason working on his condition Physics, however, and he returned in 2009 seems strong and healthy. His stats for the season were not as strong as they had been earlier in his career.
If he remains healthy and has a long career, who knows how many bases he could steal.
