How do you put together a Bandit model rocket?
I’m building a rocket for physics. I put it together using Krazy Glue, but my teacher later mentioned that Krazy Glue would not be strong enough, and I would need a stronger kind of adhesive. He specified a few sections of the rocket, but I don’t recall what these parts are. Which parts do you think need stronger adhesive? And what is a good, cheap adhesive you know of?
For a bandit, it’s balsa fins and a cardboard tube, basically. Yellow wood glue is best for this type of rocket. You’ll want to make sure you put good glue joints everywhere. On the centering rings where they attach to the motor tube, and to the body tube to keep the motor tube from detaching and shooting up through the rocket. On the fin/body tube joints to keep the fins on under thrust, and on the shock cord mount inside the body tube to keep it attached so your rocket comes down with the parachute.
Since everything is already together, just put “fillets” on all the joints. Make a small puddle of wood glue on a piece of paper, and use a toothpick to spread the glue against all the joints, making sure you have enough glue to hit both parts that are being glued together. This glue takes a bit of time to dry, so do one part, then let it sit in a direction where the glue will not drip off the joint. Once it’s set, do another part of the rocket…etc. etc. Happy flying!
